Don Orione the founder of the Congregation called Sons of Divine Providence had a great love for Mary. He placed took from her the title of Mother of Divine Providence. Mary has not at any epoch in the history of the congregation which stretches over 100 years ever failed her sons.
The charitable works that stretches in over 30 countries worldwide run solely on Divine Providence and for sure she has kept her matronhood. Many children poor, living with disabilities, sick, parishes are run by Don Orione Fathers, all these happens from her generous Providence through friends of the congregation.
Being just a day after the great feast of the Assumption of Mary I would like to present an 8 point tribute that Don Orione did to Mary. I will present it in point form.
- Mary sees and listens from afar.
- He always sent greetings to her which were marked by reverence, humility and a filial submission.
- He was sure that Mary sends benefits and countless marvels to all those who entrust themselves to her.
- Her grace qualifies her to have great power in God’s heart and Don Orione invoked her use of this power to pray for him (and us) sinner(s).
- He learnt to enjoin his tears to her tears which she shed more so during the agony of her son. He always enjoined his pain to Mary’s taking the advantage that Mary knew the experiences of pain, confusion, rejection, loss and grief.
- For him, Mary is placed at a position where she can console the world. Deepening our devotion to her soothes our hearts, draws serenity into our minds and with these, peace and joy abides.
- All her devotees enjoy her protection which is founded on her fullness of grace when she lived on earth and now fullness of power in heaven.
- Devotion and recourses to Mary never go in vain.
May we find in Mary a mother, a consoler, a helper in moment of discernment, a companion in the world’s uncertainties, pain and rejection and an usher into God’s kingdom.
